He moved to Australia in 1976 and initially played with Alex Burns and Nick Charles. With Alex Burns he formed the band Rollercoaster until Henry called it a day in 1979.

He later began to play again in the 1990s with much younger jazz-oriented players including the outstanding drummer Danny Fischer.

In the mid-1990s he and Nick Allen started playing together and then with Steve Malkin, the three formed the nucleus of what eventually became Portmanteaux.

Although initially known as a blues player, Henry has a wide range of musical influences.
