Henry – Guitars.
Henry Jackson was born in Auckland, New Zealand, and has been playing guitar since the early 1960s.
He was active on the Auckland music scene in the 1960s to the 1970s and played in a number of bands including the Jetblacks, Mad Dog Jug Band, Killing Floor , Original Sun, Oktober, Dog Breath and finally, Cherry Pie, with whom he released a single ‘Lightning Red/Gold Fever’.
He moved to Australia in 1976 and initially played with Alex Burns and Nick Charles. With Alex Burns he formed the band Rollercoaster until Henry called it a day in 1979.
He later began to play again in the 1990s with much younger jazz-oriented players including the outstanding drummer Danny Fischer.
In the mid-1990s he and Nick Allen started playing together and then with Steve Malkin, the three formed the nucleus of what eventually became Portmanteaux.
Although initially known as a blues player, Henry has a wide range of musical influences.
